CMS is doubling down on the bundled payment reimbursement model as the key driver of the transformation from a fee-based to a value- based health care system. On July 25, the agency announced plans to expand the model to include cardiovascular disease (myocardial infarction and coronary bypass grafting) to hospitals in 98 metropolitan areas. Participation is mandatory and begins July 2017.
